More people than realise it. A German school-leaving certificate is enough on its own, and so is a German degree in the right subjects, an integration course you already passed, or being under sixteen.

See the whole journey on belonggermany.appThe statute is careful about this, and the care is easy to miss. § 10 Abs. 1 Nr. 7 StAG requires knowledge of the legal and social order and of life in Germany. § 10 Abs. 5 then says that requirement is proved, as a rule, by passing the Einbürgerungstest.
As a rule. That phrase is doing the work. The test is the normal proof, not the only possible one, and the exemptions below are the cases where the authorities accept something else or drop the requirement entirely.
Most of the list above is how the authorities apply the requirement. One item is in the law directly: § 10 Abs. 6 StAG says the language and knowledge requirements are waived where the applicant cannot meet them because of a physical, mental or psychological illness or disability, or because of age. That is a statutory waiver, not a concession, and it waives both requirements rather than only the test.
The distinction matters if you are relying on it. A ground written into the statute is one the authority applies; a ground that is administrative practice is one you should raise with your Einbürgerungsbehörde before you book anything, because it is their call.
German at B1 is a separate requirement under § 10 Abs. 1 Nr. 6, with its own separate exemptions, and so are the five years of residence, the settled residence status, supporting yourself and a clean record. A school-leaving certificate takes one line off the list. It does not shorten the wait and it does not replace the language proof.
Yes. BAMF names holding a German school-leaving certificate as an exception on its own naturalisation page, and BMI states it too. Take the certificate to your Einbürgerungsbehörde rather than booking a test you do not need.
Not if you scored at least 17 out of 33 in the Leben in Deutschland test. BAMF says the Zertifikat Integrationskurs then proves your knowledge of the legal and social order, and if you reached B1 in the DTZ it proves the language requirement too.
No. BMI names law, social sciences, political science and public administration. A degree in another subject is not on the list, and a degree from outside Germany is not either.
No fixed age. § 10 Abs. 6 StAG waives the requirement where age means you cannot meet it, which is a judgement your Einbürgerungsbehörde makes on your case rather than a birthday.
