This is worth being exact about, because several of Germany's neighbours do it differently and readers arrive expecting the harder version.
There is one number: 17 of 33. That is it. No section has to be passed on its own, there is no separate bar on the values questions the way there is in Denmark, and the three questions about your Bundesland carry no special weight. You could answer all three of them wrong and still pass comfortably.
Seventeen out of thirty-three is a hair over half. You are allowed to get sixteen questions wrong. The Federal Ministry of the Interior says that in recent years well over 90 per cent of candidates have passed. This is not a paper designed to catch you out; it is a paper designed to be passed by someone who has worked through the catalogue.
§ 1 Abs. 2 EinbTestV says two things in one sentence: the 100 papers are built from the catalogue in Anlage 1, and the papers are not published. Both halves matter.
Because the papers come from the catalogue, and the catalogue is published in full, there is no hidden material. Every question you will be asked is one of the 310 you can already read. Because the papers themselves are not published, nobody can sell you the exact paper you will sit, and anyone claiming to have it is claiming to have something the regulation says does not exist in public.
The practical consequence is that studying the catalogue is not a shortcut, it is the whole task. There is nothing else to prepare from.
The Bundesland questions come from your own state's set of ten, not from the 300 general questions. They are published too, but separately, and they are the part people most often skip. Three marks out of the sixteen you are allowed to lose is not fatal, but leaving them unread is throwing away the easiest marks on the paper.

Four, with exactly one correct. § 1 Abs. 1 EinbTestV puts it that way: from four possible answers the correct one must be chosen.
The federal 30 questions are drawn from one national catalogue, so yes for those. The other three come from your own Bundesland's set of ten, so a paper sat in Bavaria and a paper sat in Hamburg differ in three questions.
You can sit it again. There is no published limit on attempts, and each attempt costs the same 25 euro. A failed attempt costs the fee and the time to rebook, not a waiting period.
